foolishmemers | FOOLISH MORTALS R2 TEST DRIVE MEME

Hello again, you foolish mortals. Since we are not having a mock trial for R2, we decided to have another test drive to help ring in the occasion! Especially since many of you have multiple options for the upcoming rounds. Much like last time, this test drive will remain open until the game itself opens in October.

Foolish Mortals is, of course, open to Disney characters only - and the same rules apply here. Characters who don't fit this criteria may find themselves being removed from the test drive, for consistency purposes. If you have any questions, please feel free to consult our FAQ here. Please list your character's name (canon also recommended) in the header of your top-level prompt.

Here are some examples to get you started:

1 - Waking Up
You find yourself awoken in a dreary little bed that creaks and squeaks far too much for your liking. The room is run-down and decrepit, and cobwebs practically coat the particularly tacky wallpaper. It's...unnerving, to say the least, and you should probably get out of there. Sadly, it doesn't look like the rest of the hotel is any cleaner, but...perhaps you'll find others in similar circumstances?

2 - Killing Time
If we must kill something, it might as well be your boredom. It doesn't seem, however, that the hotel has quite a lot to offer in the way of entertainment. There's an old projector with creepy early-to-mid-century movies, a bar, a (rather eerie) library, a steam room, and a treasure room. Something feels... off about the last room, however, like you're being watched.

3 - Happy Haunts
There's...stillness in the air. Occasionally, you might notice some sort of unexplainable oddity. A piano might begin to play itself in your presence, or dishes and silverware might reaarange themselves when you're not looking. The eyes on portraits might even follow you around, until you notice them. Perhaps it's worth investigation, or perhaps you're better off just screaming and running away. Your call.

4 - Party!
The Hollywood Tower Hotel, before its sudden closure, was famous for its parties. So perhaps it's unsurprising that everyone is called to the Tip Top Club for a mandatory party...on Thursday night. You should throw on your best formal attire, and try to have a good time. It should be mentioned, of course, that the motive this week appears to be getting on everyone's nerves. It doesn't really help matters that it'd be so easy to take someone out if you just flipped the lights off...have fun.

5 - Body Discovery
Despite your best efforts, someone has died on this fateful Friday. While no one was especially close to him, it appears that Cinderella's father is dead, and one of you is responsible. Better investigate the mansion for clues, and hope you don't mess this up...

6 - Et Cetera, Et Cetera, Et Cetera
For all the prompts you want to do but we haven't listed.

Keep in mind that posting in the test drive does not represent a commitment to join our game. You're welcome to play here even if you can't app. Playing here does not guarantee a slot in the game, nor does it count as a reserve. However, you're welcome to use up to 20 comments here from your character on the test drive should you app them later, in lieu of a sample.

2. [Of course, she seeks out the library. It isn't as if she understands what a projector is, or a movie, for that matter; the bar just reminds her (with a sneer) of Gaston, and Belle's not really comfortable making herself vulnerable in such a place as a steam room. So the library it is, even if it's giving her a very eerie feeling not entirely unlike how she felt when she first arrived at Beast's castle. But unlike that place, with its hidden warmth and the friends she'd found there, this place is cold and sad and creepy.

Still, she's determined to find a bright side, just like she did then. Belle pulls down a stack of likely-looking books and proceeds to place the whole pile next to a dusty, leather-upholstered chair. Once she's settled in, she pulls the first book into her lap and begins to page through it. If she's going to be in this strange new world, she may as well learn about it while she can.

She's so absorbed in reading about 'the invention of the automobile' that she barely notices the sound tickling at the edges of her consciousness until it's too late, and those are definitely footsteps. Belle freezes, book clutched in her hands, unable to help the trickle of icy fear that runs down her spine like water.]

[Groot holds up their hands apologetically; they were just looking around, not trying to be sneaky. Which was usually impossible for someone their size anyway.]

[Belle's eyes grow wide with wonder and—perhaps not fear, but caution—as she takes in the figure currently crowding the library doorway. She blinks a few times, and slowly relaxes.]

I'm so sorry, you just can't be too careful in a place like this. [She gives the creature a warm little smile.]

Groot? Is that your name? I'm Belle.

[Belle blinks at the willowy blonde woman stepping out of the shadows and relaxes—not completely, but her shoulders aren't hunched up and tensed anymore. She looks around, searching for a clock.]

—is it? I hadn't realized...I suppose I lost track of time.

[hey belle. hey belle. were you expecting a chipmunk to literally topple a bookcase because that's totally a thing that's happening. BANG, CRASH, WHUD, OTHER CARTOON SOUND EFFECTS before the books finally come to a rest in a large pile. Give it another few seconds and...]

Whoof-!

[UP comes his head, popping through all them books. Looks like he's A-OK, but he's gonna fix his hat before looking up, looking a little embarrassed]

Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you...

[Oh, no, okay, that is DEFINITELY a whole bookcase being knocked over; Belle jumps to her feet, the book spilling from her lap, and lets out a cry of surprise.]

Oh—! [She squints through the gloom at the little head popping up between the tumble of books, and then her eyes go wide in surprise.]

A...a chipmunk? Oh, are you alright?

[He's already had at least one human talk back to him, but it's still surprising for them to...well, treat him as something other than a rodent.]

I'll be fine, but I may need a little help putting all this back. [He's able to free himself from the pages, but boy, these are all pretty big for a little guy.]

[Well, when you've lived in a castle full of talking household objects, a talking chipmunk isn't all that much of a stretch. She steps toward the mess and kneels down, beginning to pull books toward her already and set them in neat stacks.]

That's no problem at all. I'm very glad you're alright. That must have been quite a fright for someone your size.

[he may be smol but he's darn well doing his best to do the same. Mostly he focuses on the lighter ones and pushing the bigger ones, and/or just sort of making sure they're not about to topple back over. At least he can climb up them pretty quickly?]

Aw, it's not the worst scare I've had. You should see what happens when Gadget gets angry.

[Belle has to admit, she's impressed by how well the little guy is handling this. If she'd almost just been crushed to death, she'd be a whole lot more shaken than he is.]

Gadget? Is that a friend of yours? [An interesting name, to be sure.]

[It kind of happens when your brother is Dale...]

Uh-huh. She doesn't get mad too much- but I still wouldn't want to get on her bad side!

She's really smart, too. Bet she'd already have found a way out of here by now...

Is she? What does she do? I'd hate to make assumptions, but the name 'Gadget' would be awfully fitting for an inventor.

[She's trying to sort the books by author and then title, but there are so many of them that she gives it up for the time being. Always time to organize them later on. So she just keeps stacking, careful not to damage any of the pages any worse.]

Lucky for you, that's exactly what she does! She's our team mechanic. Why, I bet she could build just about anything, given some supplies!

[Also time. Time is good. But he pauses, seeming to realize something - then holds up a tiny paw]

I don't think we've met yet - Chip, at your service!

Oh! [Lucky guess, perhaps? But really, Belle has met a whole lot of very aptly-named people. Objects. Both.

She smiles, realizing he has a point, and reaches out to take his paw between her thumb and forefinger and giving it a very tiny shake.]

I'm Belle. It's very nice to meet you, Chip. I'm glad you didn't get squashed by books.

[Tiny shake get!]

Aw, like I said, it'd take more than those to keep me down. But it's nice to meet you too, Belle.

[The footsteps stop abruptly, then resume, before the source appears from behind a bookshelf.]

Sorry...it's just me. I didn't mean to startle you; I wasn't aware that I wasn't alone.

[Belle relaxes a little, hearing an apologetic voice, and then when she sees who it is, her hands stop gripping the spine of her book.]

Oh, that's alright! It's just...I'm a little bit wound up, I suppose. Considering all of the—

[She waves a hand. Murder.]
